Menopause & Hair Loss
Hair loss in women is more common than most people would think. 40% of women will experience hair loss some time in their life. However, only 13% of women will experience hair loss before the onset of menopause. Unlike hair loss amongst men, women's hair loss remains an unspoken stigma that is socially unacceptable. A woman's hair loss can have a dramatic effect on self image and self esteem.
What Causes Menopausal Hair Loss?
Many women experience hair loss later in life as a result of menopause. The onset of menopause causes a drop off in the production of estrogen. Without the presence of estrogen to produce testosterone blocking enzymes, testosterone can be freely converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on the scalp. The result is a shorter hair growth cycle, finer hair, and shedding.
What Hair Loss Solutions are Available for Menopausal Hair Loss?
Women today have more hair restoration options than ever before. Most often, women's hair loss occurs in an overall thinning effect. Men typically lose hair in the frontal and crown areas, while hair flourishes on the sides and back of the head. Since hair loss in men and women differs, a customized solution is recommended.
For over 30 years, Hair Club has been offering only proven hair loss solutions. We help many women find a solution that is suitable for their hair restoration expectations. After a consultation with a hair loss expert, you can learn which solution is right for you. During your consultation, our hair loss expert will educate you on the following:
Bio-Matrix Process- a strand by strand hair replacement process that is a viable hair loss solution for most women. A matrix is created of crisscrossing transparent fibers that are custom fit to your thinning areas. Real human hair is added to your own hair in the same natural way that your hair grows.
Extreme Hair Therapy-a hair restoration product that stimulates hair growth in thinning areas. This customized hair loss treatment program works by keeping hair follicles in the growth phase longer, growing thicker hairs, and slowing further thinning. When the EXT Program products, procedures, and accessories are followed, you can restore your hair and scalp to a healthy state.
Microscopic Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation-a surgical procedure that involves moving hair follicles from a donor site in the back of the head (hair typically resistant to DHT) to areas where hair is needed. Hair is transplanted in the same natural way that it grows-in single grouping of 1-4 hairs.
- Due to the diffuse nature of women's hair loss (even on the sides and back of the head), relatively few women are considered good candidates for hair transplants. Scar repairs, traction alocpecia, and "burnt out" Trichotillomania are the exceptions, since hair transplants for these types of problems can help significantly. |
